Check it out over at www.modularcreativity.net, all future updates will be there! PEACE!
Felt super icky all day and did zero that was productive, so I’ll make up a post tomorrow instead of today. Have a good Friday!
So glad to have internet hooked up! I was using my phone to keep in touch with people, but it’s so much better having a larger screen and a keyboard at my disposal. The last week has been insane! We had way more stuff than we thought and barely got it packed up in time (we left Saturday at noon, were still packing in the morning). That Friday and Saturday were two of the most stressful days in memory and I’m so glad they’re over. If it wasn’t for Tim’s awesome uni friends, we might not have gotten down here at all!
I’m just about finished unpacking everywhere but the second bedroom, which is quite literally full of boxes right now. My kitchen table will have to do as a work space for the moment. Thankfully, with the long weekend approaching, Tim will be around to help me clean out that room and make it usable.
When the weather is nice I’ll be doing some updates from my new deck, for sure! Having the trees in our windows is so peaceful.
We bought some paint for the living room last night and began covered the walls. I’ll post pics when it’s done, hopefully by tomorrow. I have lots of ideas for our other rooms as well… so much to do!
Real post tomorrow, take care for now!
Things came together for me pretty quickly once I put a list together and got going! Friday night I sketched out some cherry blossoms on a separate piece of paper and tried to figure out what shape I wanted them to take on the painting. Saturday afternoon, I began painting them on using transparent layers and, after working through Sunday afternoon as well, I finished it off last night. Originally I had wanted to have an “echo” effect with the flowers and tried stamping them on and sanding them down. Neither of those techniques turned out so I just went ahead and painted with thin, transparent colors. I was going to keep it one color but quickly changed my mind once I saw what they looked like in pink against the background.
I’m very happy with the way this turned out, seeing as a week ago I had no idea what to do with it. By stepping outside the original idea I had for this painting I was able to figure out how to finish it off. It’s going in our bedroom, right above the bed where the light from the window will hit it.
On Thursday night I asked Tim for advice on what to do with the life owl drawing, and he gave me some suggestions that allowed me to finally finish it off as well.
I ended up shading the fruit and books a little bit more so they stood out from the owl. This pushes the owl to the back a bit but I don’t mind, since he’s so colorful already anyway that it would be hard to hide him. One down, two to go!
I am alive! Last week I wasn’t feeling so hot and didn’t have a lot to blog about, but I got some work done over the weekend. However, WordPress starting acting a bit funny for me yesterday and hasn’t resolved yet. Amongst a few other problems, I can’t upload any images. Seeing as how this is an art blog, well, I don’t really have much for content without images.
I’m sure the issue will be fixed soon and when it is, I’ll show you what I’ve been working on. Hint: my fingers have marker stains on them. Hurray!
Here’s some ascii art to tide you over: it’s a rose!
It’s gloomy and rainy where I am and all I want to do in this weather is sleep. Or curl up with a nice latte and a book. Working with bright colors always cheers me up a bit though. Here’s what I have going into the weekend:
I refined the pot some more and added in some rippling in the floor boards. I don’t think I’m going to be able to paint it in super bright sunlight as I’d originally intended unless we get some nice weather this weekend, but painting in muted light isn’t so bad. It’s easy to tell I’ve been painting in different lighting, just look at the leaves. Some are almost of florescent brightness and others are tamed-down dark greens. Honestly, I kind of like it that way.
Finished off the female foo dog design last night (and killed my B01, RIP buddy)! After hearing back from my bro-in-law, I’ll be ready to lay down some Gesso on the end tables and get to work painting them! Hopefully I’ll be able to redraw these without too much trouble.
Albums of the week have been Nero’s “Welcome Reality” and Dream Theater’s new “A Dramatic Turn of Events”. Since my abstract painting class I’ve been listening to a lot more techno and atmospheric music (techon, dubstep, whatever’s on cbc3…). It helps me to zone out from the world around me and really get into whatever I’m working on. I’m really starting to welcome this kind of music where I wouldn’t have in the past. Dream Theater’s album isn’t like that at all (progressive rock instead of techno) but has grown on me immensely since the first listen. Their long-time drummer quit on them earlier this year and to be frank, his leaving has really allowed the band to grow. This album is a massive improvement over their former, lyrically and melodically. There isn’t a song on the album that I really dislike, where there was only one song on their last album that really grew on me.
This weekend I’ll be baking some goodies, bottling wine and checking out my hubby’s show downtown (Seven Lives Left, 9pm at BOOM!) but I’m sure I’ll be able to squirrel away a few hours for art. Since my water-color class starts on Tuesday I’ll have to make a run to the art store to stock up on supplies before then. Oh darn. 😉
